What a busy year we've had. It would seem at times the issues kept coming without resolutions and yet we continue to push forward. Here is a list of some issues in 2019, but we are not done yet, we will continue to fight for clean Water and air, Traffic safety, Housing, immigration, Education, 2020 Census count, Early voting, Climate justice, Economic and housing justice. We also kept our pledge to continue to build a diverse and rich cultural coalition.

Traffic safety

It is not ok that Elmont is not known for safe streets for pedestrians, but after a horrific accident where 4 students going home from Elmont Memorial Highschool were struck by a vehicle. It was then we decided we could no longer sit by without changing the driving culture of Elmont. With the help of community, school and government we changed the speed zone, traffic lights, signs and ground signage. Although we have come a long way, there is so much more to do to make our streets safer for all pedestrians.

We welcome our new 2020 Census partners HAFALI AND YAM will be working with ECC to increase the hard to count Haitian immigrant community. It was very exciting to meet for the first time to plan our vision for the work.

Grant watch

We are proud to have received 2 grants from New York Civic Engagement Table (NYCET) and New York Community Trust (NYCT) to continue our work for the 2020 Census. With these funds, together with our coalition partners we will successfully Increase the  hard to count communities

We want to thank Adam Haber, Farm Fresh and Fendi from Sen. Kaminski's office for their donations. It was a wonderful day when Adam and his friends delivered turkeys to ECC. We were a blessing to 20 families and looking forward to doing more next year!
